The Food Not Lawns Desert Terra-formation Project
The term “terra-formation” literally means “Earth-shaping” or the process of deliberately modifying a planet’s atmosphere, temperature, surface topography or ecology to be similar to those of Earth to make it habitable by terrestrial organisms. This term was made famous by novelists Frank Herbert and Carl Sagin, who both discussed in their literature at the theoretical hypothetical level.
Although the idea was once hypothetical, it is now alive and well as the Greeening the Desert Project Video featured below by the Permaculture Research Institute of Australia shows.
The Food Not Lawns Desert Terra-formation Project in Tucson is currently underway and is in the process of cultivating its first Organic Lawn Garden.
The project has attracted numerous volunteers from around the country including its volunteer coordinator, Mr. Barton Hiatt. Bart is an acclaimed permaculturist, element harvester, and organic food grower, whose national work is featured on his website: Bartswindow.com.
Since the project broke ground in May of 2011, land has been sculpted, trees have been planted, and much more has occurred.

Despite its movement forward, the project is still unfunded and we are currently seeking donations to help with its maintenance. Please consider donating today. All gifts, monetary, labor, or other resources, are kindly accepted.
The Yoga Across America Project
The Yoga Across America Infusion Project is a 12-month event designed to introduce the eight-limbed path that forms the structural framework for yoga practice to individuals in communities all across the U.S. that do not have access to a variety of yoga programs as well as to provide high quality yoga immersion retreats to those individuals wishing to strengthen or initiate their eight-limbed path by removing the distractions of their busy communities.
The Project consists of a series of 3-5 day yoga residential and commuter intensive retreat programs in strategic locations across multiple states that exposes participants to the eight limbs of yoga through exhibitions, group instruction, and personal coaching. The retreats or intensives, as they are called among yoga professionals, will be facilitated by yoga personnel trained by various yoga schools with the overall objectives of educating the public about the origins, the basic elements, advanced methods, and benefits of yoga practice; providing affordable high quality yoga training to individuals in a friendly group atmosphere; helping to build a national community of yoga practitioners that focus on the core of yoga and can pass it on to others; providing an alternative source of employment for the growing amount of yoga professionals being trained throughout the world; and fostering a movement of enthusiasm across the U.S. related to practicing yoga.
The Infusions will be based on a traditional sports camp model that (1) immerses participants in instruction, (2) pulls them away from their everyday distractions, (3) offers them instruction from those they often see as heroes or idols, (4) provides them with a challenging curriculum that initially seems insurmountable, (5) presents them opportunities to work one-on-one with their idols, and (5) leaves them with a sense of achievement with an understanding that they have more to accomplish. A curriculum such as this will help those who attend develop at the least a sense of purpose for and through yoga, a better self-esteem, a sense of belonging to a larger community, as well as personal tools for empowerment and a healthy lifestyle.
A website dedicated to the program is currently being developed at YogaAcrossAmerica.com.
The Foundation is currently seeking Donations specifically earmarked for this program.
At this time staff considerations are also being made so if you are interested in working with this program, send your resume to employment@yogaacrossamerica.com.
A promotional campaign and contest has also been launched that endeavors to gain images and videos of individuals practicing yoga at various sites across the U.S., the best of which will be selected for use on YAA promotional materials. Find out more about this campaign at YogaAcrossAmerica.com
